More Water, More Happiness

“The fountain of youth [for me], let’s see…I guess it’s exercise, healthy diet, lots of water, lots of laughter, lots of sex—yes, sex, we need that as human beings. It’s healthy, it’s natural, it’s what we are here to do!” – Cameron Diaz

In celebration of World Water Day this week, I wanted to explain why I’m water’s biggest fan. Cameron Diaz described water as being one of the key ingredients required in our quest for the fountain of youth, and she’s not wrong…

Our bodies use water in all organs, cells and tissues to regulate our body temperature. Our bodies are 60% water, but every time we sweat, breathe, exercise or digest food, we lose water; this is why it is SO important to keep hydrated.

Although our personal required water intake will vary depending on how physically active we are, the climate we live in and certain health issues, the recommended daily minimum is around 2 Litres per day.

Drinking plenty of deliciously refreshing water enables our bodies to excrete waste via perspiration and urination, and allows the kidneys and liver to flush out harmful waste.

Flushing out waste and toxins is a vital necessity for beautifully plump, younger looking and flawless happy skin.  If you don’t drink enough water, these yucky toxins and bodily wastes keep building up over time and become trapped under your skin, resulting in very unhappy skin!

So, how do we know if we’re drinking enough water? Your urine should be clear; if it’s dark, you’re likely dehydrated. Mild symptoms of dehydration include headaches, fatigue, muscle cramps, negative mood changes and shriveled skin. Mild dehydration, over time, like severe dehydration, can result in premature aging, brain swelling, kidney failure, coma and of course, even death. Yikes!

If drinking plain water doesn’t excite you, there’s so many ways to sprinkle a little happiness into your water. Why not add lemon, cucumber or other fruits to add a little flavour? I personally love lemon water, and drink this daily for its additional detoxifying and hydrating superpowers. Drink up!
